Dietary Cure for Acne

  • This may be my one and only post on this blog
  • My purpose is to increase awareness of great recent work that will be of benefit to most acne sufferers.
  • These sites relate to research by Professor Cordain (Colorado State University) and associates. Cordain and colleagues have many papers in reputable peer-reviewed scientific publications on this and related matters. Check them out at the above websites.
  • Dermatologists are generally slow to recognise recent evidence of a major role for diet in acne. [Science is a big ship, and changes direction slowly .. unlike ‘zits’ ]
  • If you suffer from acne, try the diet outlined at the above sites for at least 4 weeks: you will have nothing to lose, and everything to gain. The only losers might be the pharmaceutical industry.
  • I am not affiliated with Prof Cordain and associates, and have nothing to gain – financially or otherwise – by publishing this blog, apart from the satisfaction of knowing that some acne sufferers will be greatly helped. (Although, as a veterinarian, I have to admit to being fascinated by the science).
  • A young relative of mine had bad acne, was on “Roaccutane” (R) and now has some facial scarring. ( … if the prevalence of acne in western countries is around 90% of teenagers, most people have at least one young relative with bad acne … ). Alas, the information outlined at the websites above came about 10 years too late for him. But, perhaps you can be spared unnecessary suffering ?
Very simply:
  • high glycaemic load diets plus dairy products have a major role in the pathogenesis of acne (through their insulinaemic -and other- effects)
  • the dietary cure for acne basically is a diet of fresh fruit and vegetables, lean meats, fish, and lean poultry. Yep, that’s it.
  • (And, on the flip side, avoid grains and cereals and byproducts, dairy products, processed and refined foods containing sugars, processed oils etc).

I wish you well. Give the diet a go. What have you got to lose?
